FiOS Arrives in urban Philadelphia

I waited over 4 years for Verizon FiOS service to come to my neighborhood in Philadelphia and it finally arrived last spring. As fate would have it, I happened to be home from work on the day the technicians from Verizon connected the fiber optic cable lines right outside my house. I quickly grabbed my camera and took a few shots of the FiOS technicians at work. I wanted to savor the moment that FiOS finally became available in my area.

Verizon Triple Play

I signed up for Verizon Triple Play which covers my access for internet, cable tv and telephone service. I'm also considering adding a plan for Verizon wireless cellphone when the Verizon iPhone 5 becomes available.

Overall I'm pleased with the Triple Play package from Verizon, however the rate I'm paying is much higher than I expected when I signed up initially. The advertisements from Verizon claim that you get all three services for under a hundred dollars, but for me that is NOT the case!

My Review of FiOS

I'm really pleased with the service and features of the Verizon Triple Play package. It's a huge improvement over Verizon DSL service that I had in the past. The speeds are awesome and streaming video and downloading enormous files from the internet is super fast and even better than I expected. I can surf the internet just a quickly as I do at work on the dedicated T1 line. As a blogger, internet connection speed and stability is a critical component to the efficiency of my workflow.

My phone service performs just as it did before and I've always been happy using Verizon as my internet phone service provider.

The cable tv and DVR functions are outstanding and there are only a few minor glitches and irritations that need to be addressed. On a scale from 1 to 10 my overall rating for Verizon FiOS is 8.5, and the service is well worth the price.

UPDATED Verizon FiOS Interface

On September 28, 2011 there was an update to the Verizon software on my set top box. This update included a new and easy to navigate display. The channel guide changed color to a soothing blue background that is more appealing to read and scroll through for channel selection.

Download Verizon's In Home Agent on your pc to watch and manage your favorite programs. You can also control Widgets with this handy feature. I use the YouTube Widget and when I'm logged into my Gmail account I can watch videos that I have uploaded to my YouTube channel, added to my YouTube favorites or the most popular videos currently available on YouTube.

They also have widgets for traffic, weather, football - they even have a Twitter widget.

I've had them for the past month and a half and have had no issues with their service here in Florida.

Hi Ileane,

FiOS really looks like a promising service. FiOS is Verizon’s answer to an all-in-one package and has everything related to entertainment on one bundle.

Thanks

Hey Saurabh, It's a great idea for me because I only need to pay one monthly bill to Verizon and it covers three services that I use everyday. Thanks for stopping by.
